Operation Weed

Columbia High School efforts to improve the commnity came when students conceived an idea of cleaning the weeds from the vacant lots around town.
The activity ws called "Operation Weed" adn held on October 20, 1956.

it was a big success with more than two-hundred kids turning out to work.
The areas were dividedd into sections and team captains were assighen to each section.
The weeds were raked and piled. General Electric trucks were donated to pick up the weeds where they were hauled to central burning areas.

Operation Weed provided fun and was commended by many of Richland's eivic leades.
